The Fairs and
Festivals of Shekhawati are as colorful as the people and their
Havelis.
Teej
(July/August)
This festival marks
the advent of the monsoons. In the month of Shravana, saing are
hung from tree tops and the women are seen joyfully dressed and
enjoying the cool breeze after a long hot summer. They sing song
of love and welcome the rains and even their swing are decorated
with flowers.
Gangaur
(March/April)
A festival
dedicated to Gauri, a manifestation of goddess Parvati, where
maidens and married woman join in procession carrying
beautifully adorned wooden images of the goddess, through the
streets and praying for the well being their husbands or asking
for a husband of their dreams.
