PLANNING OF HAVELI

The planning of the Morarka Haveli was mainly conceived around two broad concepts- the First and major was the Social and the second was the Climatic factor.

Social Context
The presence of ‘Parda’ system in the Rajput family and the customs of Shekhawati resulted in an introvert house. The courtyard planning because the only solutions to in-house the women folk of the family creating the separation in the male (Outer court termed as ‘Mardana’) and female (Inner court termed as ‘Zenana’) members of the family. The third broadly defined area of the Haveli was ‘Nora’, or the service-yard.

Climate Context
From the climatic point of view, one should surely applaud the designers of Shekhawati Havelis. Climatic factors also have the governing rule in the planning concepts of Shekhawati havelis as it forms the main source of the natural light and ventilation in the house.
